The BJS Foundation Executive Committee is recruiting an Editor in Chief to manage the BJS Academy and its activities from 2025.
Key BJS Foundation stakeholders are invited to share this call within their organisations to assist with the recruitment of a suitable candidate.
Potential candidates for the post of Editor in Chief should be:
- An established clinical surgeon with an excellent research and publication record.
- Experienced as a journal editor or associate editor, with strong critical analysis and appraisal skills, and a good understanding of review, publication ethics and scientific publishing.
- Able to lead and run an international editorial team.
- Keen to work with the BJS Foundation, BJS and BJS Open Editorial Team to innovate and continuously improve the quality of BJS Academy.
- Effective in publicising and promoting BJS Academy.
- Able to commit regular time to working on the journal alongside existing commitments.

It is anticipated that interviews will be held during September by videoconference, with the expectation that the successful applicant will start on 1 January 2025. A planned overlap with the current BJS Academy Director is proposed for 6 months.
